Minnesota Black Sand Beach Proposal / Engagement Session
Congrats to these high school sweethearts — Ben and Sophie! Ben reached out to me via my website for help capturing this important day. Black Sand Beach had always been on their bucket list, so Ben thought it would be the perfect place to propose (plus they had plans to see a concert at a nearby park that evening so the logistics worked out perfectly).
I arrived at the beach an hour before to scope out the area. I've been to Black Sand Beach before, never during the middle of the day. It was the busiest I had ever seen it, so I was a little worried about it being too crowded to feel like a private moment, but Ben sent me a text to let me know they were 10 minutes away so I could try to start clearing out a spot on the beach for them. I let a couple families with younger kids know that there was going to be a proposal in the next few minutes (in the hopes that their parents would make sure their kids didn't run right in front of my camera), and they were all super understanding and helpful to scoot out of the way a bit and clear a spot on the beach.
The proposal was perfect and Sophie was very surprised! Thankfully, she did not know what I looked like so there was no need for an elaborate disguise lol. I brought at 300mm telephoto lens, but ended up opting for my 105mm to fit the scenery of Lake Superior into frame.
After they had a bit to soak in the moment for themselves, I jumped in to introduce myself and take a few prompted and posed pictures! Check out some of the photos included in the gallery below. And congrats again to these two (oh and she said yes if that wasn't obvious)!
